Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas gifted us the 12 principles of animation! What could be more delightful than infusing our characters with life? This online module will allow you to acquire a solid foundation to learn how to animate!
PROGRAM
The program features hands-on drawing sessions aimed at enhancing your skills and sparking your creativity. You'll engage in world-building exercises to cultivate your "pre-production mindset," as well as character design and background work to help you shape a project. Additionally, there are 2D animation sessions focused on developing a personal project.
Courses and Objectives
- Character Design: volume and silhouette construction, graphic styles, proportions, colors..
- Worldbuilding / Story / Pitch: write a pitch and synopsis, create character and background boards, and storyboard.
- Background Design: perspective, framing, and composition.
- Observational drawing: observational sketches.
- Animation 2D: basics of 2D animation, draw several steps of an action with a character
- Follow-up and Support: 4 one-on-one meetings to support your progress and the development of a personal project.

ORGANIZATION
The training takes place entirely online. Cost: Fixed fee of 800 euros
COMPUTER EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
A personal computer (desktop or laptop), a webcam, a reliable internet connection, a graphics Tablet
Classes on Wednesdays : 6:30pm to 8:30pm (Paris time zone). We will open another time slot depending on the requests received.
Duration: 28 hours of distance learning and 14 hours of personal work based on structured exercises. 4 individual meetings to help you progress
Supplies: You can use whatever tools you're comfortable with. Pencils (2B and, if possible, 3B, 4B or 6B), colored pencils, charcoal, felt-tip pens... For the supports, we suggest you use A3 minimum. These sheets will accommodate all your sketches, drawings and notes. If it's not possible to use a notebook or A3 sheets, you can use an A4 format, and for your inspiration notebook an A5 format.
The school reserves the right not to open the course if the number of participants is not reached.

Target audience :
High School Students : Students entering high school in the fall of 2024, as well as first-year university students
Qualities : strong interest in drawing, creativity, curiosity about art in all its forms and motivation
Organization : the training takes place entirely online
Admission process : registrations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Each registration must include a brief presentation video (introducing the applicant's bakcground, expectations, project, and showcasing some of their work). The video will not be used as the basis for selecting participants.
Evaluation methods : initial assessment at the beginning of the program to determine starting point. And ongoing evaluations throughout the course, including regular constructive feedbacks sessions.
Projects : development of a graphic portfolio in both paper and digital formats, competition training (advice and practice), school selection.
Classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays : 6:30pm to 8:30pm (Paris time zone and China time zone).
